The Grey Lynn streets asking for widescreen

My way of celebrating part of Matariki this year was to coast around the neighbourhood on my bike until I found something interesting to sketch. The perfect way to spend a public holiday I reckon. For some reason this pretty typical Grey Lynn street caught the eye but I soon realised it felt restricted on the page – so I tore another page out of the sketchbook (I never do that!) and tacked it on the side. Maybe I'll do more of these. The result gives a much better idea of what the streets around here look like...

Kōpiko Herald Article

NZ Herald Travel ran a feature on the Kōpiko trip. Here are a couple of shots from the print version, but you can read the online version here.

I found it pretty hard to write to be honest – I had 9,000 or so words from my daily blog posts of the trip – but the article required only around 1,100, so that was tough! I worked as an editor on the Urban Sketchers website for a number of years editing other artists work down to size so thought it would be easy. I discovered that it's a lot harder to edit your own content – I guess you're more invested in it.
