Going wide screen in Grey Lynn

My way of celebrating part of Matariki this year was to coast around the neighbourhood on my bike until I found something interesting to sketch. The perfect way to spend a public holiday I reckon! For some reason this pretty typical Grey Lynn street caught the eye but I soon realised it felt restricted on the page – so I tore another page out of the sketchbook (I never do that!) and tacked it on the side.  The result gives a much better idea of what the streets around here look like...

Queen Street Santa

The enormous Santa that sits on the Whitcoulls building is a bit of an Auckland icon, and freshly renovated for his 50th anniversary this year.

His winking eye and moving finger have gone in favour of a fresh 'pc' look as many considered the winking eye and beckoning finger to be a bit on the sleazy side!

When I worked for the advertising department of Farmers I used to fancy a girl with an office behind his chest. I'd find any excuse to visit that office!
